THE ROBIN HOOD FESTIVAL

The Robin Hood Festival is held each year at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre just outside Edwinstowe Village. 

A week long celebration of the legend of Robin Hood it features entertainment for all the family.

The 2009 festival will take place from August 3rd until August 9th.

Programme Highlights

Medieval camp with craftsmen, have a go archery, music and entertainers beside the Major Oak all week.  Purchase a souvenir programme at the event for full details and times of each days events.  There is usually also an information board detailing events each day.   Below are selected highlights from the programme as provided in the leaflet from Nottinghamshire County Council detailing the event.

Monday 3rd August

Opening Ceremony 11am Jousting Arena

The Silver Arrow Challenge 4pm at the Major Oak

Purchase a programme for entry into the prize draw.  Nominated archers for the single arrow attempt must be over 7 years old

 

Walk With Hawks 2.30pm

Guided walk with falconer Chris Miller. An opportunity to see the birds up close and learn about the history of falconry.  No dogs allowed.  Pre-booking required*.  Adults £3.50, Children £1.50.

 

Tuesday 4th August

Walk With Hawks 11.30am & 3pm

Guided walk with falconer Chris Miller. An opportunity to see the birds up close and learn about the history of falconry.  No dogs allowed.  Pre-booking required*.  Adults £3.50, Children £1.50.

 

Twilight Tales 8pm

An evening walk beginning at the visitor wiht Minstrel Trevor James and storytellers Past Imagined.  Distance 3/4 mile.  No dogs allowed. Unsuitable for those under 7 years of age.  Pre-booking required*.  Tickets £4 each.

 

Wednesday 5th August

Falconry Display 12noon & 2.15pm Jousting Arena

An impressive, interactive display from Ye Olde Redtail Falconry.

 

Jousting Tournament 3pm Jousting Arena

The fight between good & evil, Robin Hood & The Sheriff of Nottingham recreated by Legends Medieval Stunt Team.

Thursday 6th August

The Sheriff's Treasure Hunt 2pm from the Visitor Centre

Follow the trail and solve clues to locate the treasure lost in the forest. Trail leaflets £2.

 

The Robin Hood Pub Quiz 7-9pm Forest Table Restaurant

A chance to test your knowledge and maybe win a prize for best dressed team?  Entry price includes a chip butty during the interval.  Bar available.  Pre-booking required*.  Adults £4.50, children £2.50.

 

Friday 7th August

Falconry Demonstration 12noon & 2pm

A talk & demonstration from Ye Olde Redtail Falconry.

 

Hunt The Outlaw 2.30pm from the Visitor Centre

Purchase a hunting permit from The Sheriff in order to scour the forest for Robin Hood & his outlaws.  £2 per permit.  All successful hunters receive a certificate.

 

Saturday 8th August
